Crafting level and material requirements may be out of date

Click here for a comparison chart that will assist with training in the leatherworking skill.

Skinning is used to skin hides from certain animals and monsters. A skinning knife is required to skin and can be bought in a leathercrafting shop for 150 gold or made by blacksmith with 3 iron ingots. Only certain animals can be skinned at certain levels; before level 45 only cows, deer, rabbits, snakes, wolves, and wargs can be skinned; though at level 30 you can get quality hides from those animals. At lvl 45 you can skin minotaurs, minions, floating horrors, ogres, and hell hounds for superior hides. At level 70 you can skin demons, hell spawns, horned devils, and death tyrants for flawless hides. The chances of success are based on your skill/2 and dexterity/6 plus 50%.

Tanning requires no tools but you must stand next to a tanning vat to do. To tan just double-click on your hides then select the tanning vat. The chances for success are based on your skill/2 and intelligence/6 plus 15% (even less for magic hides).

Leatherworking requires Leatherworking tools which can be bought from the Leathercrafting shop for 200 gold. To use the Leatherworker's Tools double-click them while standing next to a Leather Workbench and you'll be given a menu of items you can craft. This menu is divided into weapons, armor, and tools and includes the number of leather required to craft each item. The odds of success are determined by your skill/2 and dexterity/6 plus the base%. The following charts show what is required to craft each item.
