Chat Interface
Using this chat interface has puzzled some individuals so I'm here to explain how it works.
I'll start out with all the new commands that were added with it:
1. /listen command
by typing /listen you get a message showing which channels you are listening to

by typing /listen off [channel name] you will get a message saying the chosen channel name was removed as listeners (meaning you are no longer listening to that channel) /listen on [channel name] gives the opposite effect.

Here is a list of the various channels:
c: combat
g: group/party
s: say (the main chat channel)
t: tell
q: quest
sh: shout
gu: guild
2. /talk command
By typing /talk you will get a message telling you which channel you are talking on, though it is easier to just look at the channel name in the brackets before your message

By typing /talk [channel name] you will switch to the chosen channel name, tab and shift+tab can be used to the same effect as well as /[channel name]

3. /who command
By typing /who [player name] you will get a message telling you if the character is online.

By typing /who ch:[channel name] you can see who is on a specified channel (you must be in the channel for this to work).

By typing /who gu:[guild name] you will get a message telling you who is online in the specified guild (some guilds have colored names and cannot be checked due to the removal of the @ color feature).

Note: /who command is case and character sensitive
4. /tell command
By typing /tell [player name]: [message] you will send a message to the indicated player.

When an individual sends you a tell message type /r to reply to that message.

5. /roll command
By typing /roll [start number] [end number] a random number will be generated between the 2 given numbers.

6. % commands
By typing %t you will get a [target] message which will be either an item you are dragging, your current target, or anything your mouse may be hovering over (if none of these than it will say [target])

By typing %[party member number] the party member who matches the number typed will be typed in.

7. join command
Creating/joining a player created channel has no keyboard shortcut so instead of typing something in you'll right click the chat window and click Join...

Then just type in the desired channel name and there you are.

8. new chat command
To create a new window you can either type /newchat [window name] or right click the chat window and select New Window then Create New

and simply type in a name in the dialog box.

Hotkey Interface
One of the newest features to AE allows making shortcuts tied to the Function keys (F1- F12) and also includes using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys for a wide variety of choices. To start using this new feature press H to bring up the Hotkey Bar.
Then drag an item to the desired Function key (healing potion to F1 for this example)

Now pressing F1 will use the potion. Note: item hot keys use the selected container for finding the item you wish to use. ex. monster bodies take the focus from your backpack so careful when hunting.
Next is naming your hot key (not needed), right click on the desired hot key and click name.

Next type in the name you wish to have displayed on the hot key (make it short as it has very limited space).

Finally you can also give each hot key up to 4 lines of text to enter upon pressing it. Just right click on the hot key and select edit.

Select the line you wish to use and type in the message pressing enter when done, you can also use any of the chat commands as listed above in the Chat Interface tutorial.

Now you can just press F1 to use the item and/or enter the message you set to that key like below.

In order to use the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift alternates just hold the desired key and place the item like above.

Spellcasting Interface
With this update came a refined spellcasting interface and here is where I shall show you how to use new parts of it as well as go over some of the older parts for those new to Ashen Empires.
The first thing we need to do is to click on your wand to equip it.

Once equipped press c to bring up your casting interface (if it isn't already up).
You should notice that there is a yellow rune in the first slot when the interface is brought up (unless you have gained or lost reputation points). And next to that slot is an open one waiting for you to insert a new rune.

The next step is to insert a rune into that open slot, so look in your backpack for one and drag it to the slot as shown below with the nature rune. Note: Only a Body, Nature, Soul, or Mind rune may occupy this slot.

Now that you have a rune inserted into your wand you can begin casting, start by left clicking the rune you just inserted. You should now see the wand icon replaced by a spell icon with the spell name below it and anaura should also appear around your character showing you're ready to cast.

When you come across a monster in the open click the targeting cursor to cast your selected spell on them.

As you cast spells you will notice that the rune(s) you have selected (with the exception of your reputation rune) will gradually diminish.

When it finally expires you will get a message and the rune will vanish which leaves you the task of finding or buying a new one. Also you should notice that you will get many varied spells depending on the runes you select. Of these spells there are 3 main types: Those that assist others (green aura), those that harm others (red aura), and those that do neither (yellow aura). If you want a list of all such spells check out the Magic section of my page as shown on the right.
